It’s January 2025, but golf starts in Florida starting Tuesday.
That’s right, it’s time for the premiere of TGL, the virtual golf league which was founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Many famous golfers are participating and we will see the first evening on ESPN and ESPN+ on January 7, 2025.
But if you’re here, you might be wondering: what is this league for? What are the rules? Who participates?
Have no fear! We get a full look at it all from top to bottom as we prepare to watch some virtual golf.
What is TGL?
This is the indoor golf simulation league. It was founded by TMRW Sports with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
What does TGL mean?
Excellent question! This isn’t Tiger’s Golf League. It is : The golf league of tomorrow.
How does the TGL format work?
There is six teams of four players eachwith three speakers each week to play. The top four teams of the season will face off in the playoffs.
Each confrontation will consist of two sessions:
1. Three-on-three alternate shot.
2. Six head-to-head holes, where golfers will compete and play two holes each.
Each winning hole is worth one point, ties are worth zero points, and if there is a tie throughout the match, there will be a competition at the nearest hole to decide the winner.
A victory is worth two points in the standings, a defeat in overtime is worth one point and a defeat is worth zero.
