LIV Golf’s slogan is “Golf, but harder”, but is that really the case?
Nielsen ratings are out for this weekend, and LIV Golf’s ratings in its Individual Championship at LIV Golf Chicago were among the lowest of the season.
Only 89,000 people watched Jon Rahm win the title Sunday on the CW, and Saturday’s second round, which LIV Golf said was the most-attended round in the United States ever, drew 134,000 viewers on television.
Those numbers don’t include LIV Golf Plus, but regardless, they paint a striking picture of fan interest in the breakaway league, which concludes its third season this week at the Team Championship at Maridoe in Dallas.
IndyCar Nashville: 483 km
LIV Chicago Saturday: 134,000
LIV Chicago Sunday: 89,000

Also on Sunday, the Solheim Cup drew 657,000 viewers, seven times more than those who watched LIV. For comparison, the Solheim Cup ended around 2:45 p.m. ET on Sunday and LIV Golf Chicago ended at 6:05 p.m. ET, so they weren’t in direct competition.
As fans of the game continue to be turned off by talk of the PGA Tour versus the LIV and the ongoing efforts to bring together the best players, the LIV’s television ratings have yet to take off.
With direct competition from college football and the NFL as well, it’s hard to imagine people stopping watching football to watch LIV Golf, and the numbers show it.
Rahm won Sunday, taking home $22 million in the process. That’s $247 and some cents for every viewer who tuned in to watch the show.
Golfers are among the highest-paid athletes in the world today. But as LIV and the Public Investment Fund weigh the league’s future, it’s hard to imagine fan interest changing.
With three years of data, people are not watching LIV Golf on TV.
