THE PGA Tour The season opens Thursday in Kapalua, Hawaii with The Sentry, formerly called the Tournament of Champions and open until this year only to winners of the previous year’s Tour events.
This often resulted in fields of around 30 players, but now there are 60 players, last year’s winners, plus any other players who were among the top 50 on the 2024 FedEx Cup points list.
A player absent from the field is a two-time defending player champion. Scottie Scheffler, who cut his right hand last week in a Christmas Day cooking accident. He will be out for three to four weeks.
The Sentry will have a strong presence in the area with players from the First Coast and the Golden Isles of Georgia.

How to watch on TV
Golf Channel will broadcast all four rounds in prime time, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Peacock will broadcast daily from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
