One of the most frequent and controversial discussion subjects in one of the main sports around the world is the subject of the display. It seems that each season that fans are found with legitimate complaints concerning the arbitration which lets them feel frustrated, and unfortunately, the National Hockey League is no exception.
It is perhaps for this reason that I find so bizarre that almost no one talks about a major change in the commission which took place during the NHL 2024-25 season.
Recently, the NHL veteran journalist Jason Gregor stressed how drastic a quarter work was when he discussed a truly shocking statistic with regard to the league officer.
“The massive decrease, the significant reduction in penalties, the lowest in NHL history last season,” said Gregor On the podcast Rundown DFO.
Gregor used a nice round number to emphasize how drastic disposition is the officer of the officer has passed from one season to another.
“They don’t get the best civil servants,” said Gregor. “The lack of penalties illustrates it to me. You cannot tell me that in 2 years, the NHL players are 1000, 1000, fewer more disciplined offenses. I do not buy it, the game is faster than ever.”
Why could you ask that the best hockey league on the planet does not obtain the best available civil servants? Well, according to Gregor, the NHL has become too concentrated on the hiring of former players for the role and the transition to more experienced referees in the process.
“I had a current NHL reference and others contact me and tell me” at the moment, the NHL has been so focused on former players that they do not necessarily get the best officials “, added Gregor.
Gregor sounds the alarm in the hope that the problem does not get worse before he improves, but unfortunately, I must admit that I heard very little, if not, of fans or experts discussing this very nuanced problem with any type of seriousness.
“I think it’s something you have to talk about and watch,” Gregor said.
However, the NHL has not had a very good story to keep its officials responsible, so if the NHL will take this question seriously or not remains to be seen.
