The NCAA has decided to hold the Final Four Female 2028 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis instead of the arena where the pacers and fever play their games.
The change announced Tuesday by the Division I women’s basketball committee means that the event will earn around 13,000 seats. The plan is to play about half of the capacity of the cavernous Foal stadium,, which contains 70,000 people for football matches.
“The displacement of the Final Four Female 2028 at Lucas Oil Stadium will allow more access to our fans, and it represents continuous growth in sport,” said Amanda Braun, sports director of Milwaukee and the Committee, Amanda Braun. “With the interest we have seen, holding the Final Four Female in a larger place in Indianapolis is a next natural step.”
The Committee also voted to keep the preliminary Round Schools format of schools organizing matches in the first and second round before two regional sites for the Sweet 16 and the elite 8. The NCAA said that 85% of sports directors, coaches and conference managers were interviewed on the preferred subject.
“We have examined alternatives in the format of the first four, the first and second round and regional format, and the data support the conservation of our current model,” said Braun. “This will continue to be a point of discussion for the Committee while we are looking to serve participants in the tournament and fans in the best possible way.”
