The FIBA Eurobasket 2025 will be underway at the end of August, and even if the lists are not entirely finalized, the summer competition could become an excellent opportunity to watch the young talent of the NBA and the future talents of the NBA compete in the High Stakes. Here are some of the best names to watch potentially.
Nikola Topic was the 12th choice of the NBA 2024 draft, selected by Oklahoma City Thunder, and sat his first season of the League to recover from a knee injury he suffered during his pre-party season. The subject was considered by some as potentially the best prospect of the 2024 class, and his talent was full of display in the NBA Summer League for the Thunder just a few weeks ago.
The subject was selected for the preliminary list of Serbia for Eurobasket, and with the Nikola Jokic center which should participate in this summer tournament, Serbia’s eyes are clearly on the gold medal. Jokic only won a silver medal for his country in international tournaments. The subject’s playing time could be limited with the Vasilije Vasilije micic guards, Aleksa Avramovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Marko Gududuric probably taking most of the custody minutes, but there could still be an opening for the subject.
The Serbia’s leader’s game dropped them into the big games in previous tournaments, and the subject could provide an injection of young people and talents which prevents them from undergoing the same fate as this team seeks to grasp gold. If the subject can earn serious minutes in a team with so much talent, experience and ambition, then expect it to do the same with Oklahoma City Thunder next season.
No Ricky Rubio, Jose Calderon or Sergio Rodriguez, and finally, no Sergio Llull. The golden generation of Spanish basketball has officially disappeared with Llull and Rudy Fernandez outside the list of Eurobasket 2025. Although the primary responsibilities of playmaker are probably supposed by veterans of Liga ACB Alberto Diaz and Dario Brizuela, do not be surprised if the young Sergo de Larrea and Mario Saint-Saint
De Larrea and Saint-Supery were both considered as potential second round choices in the recovery of the NBA 2025, but none entered. De Larrea will return to Valencia and play in the Euroleague next season, while Saint-Supery will go to the University of Gonzaga. The Spanish list is certainly talented, but they should see this tournament as a development opportunity in the leader’s position. De Larrea is now considered a choice of first round in 2026 and could be the next big leader in the country. I hope he will have the opportunity to show his skills this summer.
No Victor Wembanyama or Rudy Gobert for France, but they will still have many young talents. Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr, the first and second choice of the NBA 2024 draft, will both be suitable for the Blues, and like Serbia, they will target a gold medal.
Other NBA talents such as Bilal Coulibaly and Guerschon Yabusele will join them, and with many talents abroad of quality filling the rest of the list, a gold medal is certainly on the cards. This tournament will be great to see how Risacher and Sarr adapt to having potentially assuming larger roles as markers. Not only Wembanyama and Gobert released this summer, but Evan Fournier and Nando de Colo too, the two guards who managed the offensive reins next to Tony Parker.
Sarr and Risacher will not play the leader, of course, but Sylvain Francisco, Elie Okobo, Nadir Hifi and Isaia Cordinier will try to put them in advantageous score situations – offsets, drawbacks, screens, etc. – To provide a good part of the France score. If Risacher and Sarr are on occasion, it will be good for France and a good sign for their development.
