The Giants of the Giants of San Francisco, Jerar Encarnación, will miss the start of the season after having broken a bone in his left hand while trying to dive on Friday.
Incarnación, also a candidate for playing time at the designated striker, should miss four to five weeks. Manager Bob Melvin told MLB.com that surgery was an option.
Encarnación struck. 302 with two circuits and 14 points produced in spring training. He struck .248 with five circuits and 19 points produced in 113 At-Bats in 2024.
The Dominican native made his debut in the major league with Miami in 2022. He signed with San Francisco as a free agent last May.
