Wimbledon players like Serena Williams and Roger Federer could soon benefit from the help of technology used in Hollywood. Motion capture technology, similar to that used in Hollywood films to add special effects to moving characters, is now used to help tennis players improve their technique and avoid injuries.
The technology is called BoB and creates a 3D computer avatar using 17 motion sensors attached to a tennis player. BoB was developed by Coventry University. Its goal is to help doctors and trainers better understand what’s happening inside the body. The technology can track more than 600 muscles, according to Dr James Shippen of Coventry University.
