VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Park Board voted 4-1 on a plan to remove the city park’s tennis courts and install pickle ball courts on Feb. 1.
Since then, members of the Valley City Tennis Association and Valley City Park Board Member Susan Kringlie have been concerned that the city will lose the City Park tennis courts, which are heavily used by junior tennis, VCHS, VCTA and community members.
High school coach Matt Nielson said we needed those extra fields for our teams.
Erik Kringlie, president of the Valley City Tennis Association, said the community needs a combined tennis and pickle ball facility as both programs grow in size.
He said a meeting with the Valley City Park board, the VCTA and pickle ball members is scheduled for April 18 to discuss the issue.
Kringlie said we lost four varsity fields to the wellness center, and if we lose City Park, it will affect our programming. The City Park fields are also the only lighted fields in the community for late-night tournaments.
About 50 people attended the Valley City Tennis Association meeting on Wednesday, April 12, to express concerns about the possible loss of tennis courts in City Park.
