Tennessee State football I will celebrate coming home with the chance to stay in the heart of the Big South/Ohio Valley Conference race when Eastern Illinois visits Nissan Stadium.
THE Tigers (4-2, 2-1) are coming off back-to-back conference wins over Charleston Southern 13-9 and Lindenwood 24-20. Coach Eddie George is proud of the resilience his team showed in these two games, but also stressed the importance of getting off to a better start.
The Tigers only scored a total of seven points in the first quarter of their conference games.
EIU (1-5, 0-2) fell into a tie for last place with Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern after losing to Southeast Missouri 38-27 last week. THE Panthers did, however, beat TSU 30-17 last season.
EIU is struggling on both ends of the court. The Panthers are last in total offense (298.7 yards) in the Big South/OVC and second-to-last in total defense (444.3). TSU isn’t much better offensively (309.3) but has risen to second in the conference and 24th in the FCS defensively (322.0).

TSU can’t continue to play catch-up in these conference games. The Tigers are going to run out of time at some point by allowing their opponents to take an early lead.
