In the most recent WSBT segment, we talk about the Notre Dame football team, but also discuss some general college football topics. We talk about the evolution of the offense, what changes we might see coming in the future, how Notre Dame’s offensive evolution is about strengthening its strengths and the triple option.

This is followed by a discussion about the new freshman class.

0:55 – We begin with a general discussion of college football and the current direction of offenses. We’re talking about possible “next steps” regarding the evolution of college football, which could also result in a sort of “rollback” cycle.

4:06 – From Notre Dame’s perspective, we’re talking about how an “evolution” offensively with the Fighting Irish is really about making their strengths – running the ball, tight ends – even stronger. At 5:36 I said, “This makes it a lot easier to defend,” but it was supposed to mean harder to defend. Slip of the tongue!

6:40 a.m. – We discuss the fullback position and whether we might ever see that position return to college football. My answer might surprise you!

9:52 a.m. – This conversation leads to talk about the football option. We explain why the option can actually work at times when top programs are lacking talent, but we also explain how, in a conference setting, the option has a shorter shelf life.

12:17 p.m. – Incoming freshman Prince Kollie is the next topic of conversation. We discuss what makes him unique, both specific to his skill set and from an overall perspective, then talk about his ability to earn playing time as a true freshman.

4:51 p.m. – We talk about the freshman class and who could contribute among the players expected to arrive this summer.
