When the old South Carolina women’s basketball star A’ja Wilson She walked through the Gainbridge Fieldhouse tunnel in her all-white T-shirt Wednesday night before the Las Vegas Aces’ game against the Indiana Fever, 11 points away from making WNBA history.
And she did.
With a mid-range shot on the former Gamecocks star Aliyah BostonWilson broke the record for most points scored in a single season. The Aces won 86-75 in Indianapolis, improving to 3-0 against the Fever this season.
Wilson finished the season with 27 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. She scored 966 points this season.
Seattle Storm goaltender Jewell Lloyd held the previous record, scoring 939 points in 38 games last season.
Boston finished with six points, four assists and a team-best 10 rebounds. Boston was eliminated with 1:02 left in the fourth period. Star rookie Caitlin Clark scored 16 points.
The Aces (23-13) clinched a playoff spot and currently sit in fourth place. The Fever (19-18) remain in sixth place.
The Aces will face the Fever again on Friday, back at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
