Sophie Cunningham suggests WNBA needs deal within a month or lockout begins appeared first on Clutch Points. Add ClutchPoints as Favorite source by clicking here.

The WNBA and union are still trying to negotiate a new deal, and this season is currently up in those negotiations. The two sides recently metand the union has proposed a new deal that focuses on player housing and facilities standards. It seems like things could be moving forward, but it still seems like it’s not enough to get both sides on the same page.

Sophie Cunningham has been very open about the negotiations and where she thinks things could go from here, and her latest opinion shows that there is a chance a lockout could occur if nothing happens soon.

“If we’re going to have a season, it has to happen within a month of a deal being made. Otherwise it’s going to be a lockout or a strike. Which is insane,” Cunningham told Show Me Something Show.

There’s another meeting coming soon, and it could be make-or-break for this season, Cunningham believes.

“Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll have a CBA meeting at the end of this week or soon, so we’ll have more to talk about,” Cunningham said. “It gets interesting. It’s very cruel from a business standpoint, to be honest. I’m optimistic. I want to think good thoughts because all these other leagues are amazing. You have Project B, which is going to be phenomenal. You have Unrivaled, which a lot of people do. But I think the WNBA is the platform for it. So you have to have it. I really hope that if the league gets its act together, then I I think we’re going to have a 70 percent season.

Most WNBA players who have spoken out about the negotiations have remained optimistic, and while there appears to be much more to accomplish, they believe they will get the deal they want.
