STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team lost both of its matches this week in the Wolverine Conference tournament.
The Trojans lost to Vicksburg on Wednesday, 7-1.
“The Trojans had a good effort, but the Bulldogs were a little too strong,” Sturgis coach George Earl said.
George Ebert earned Sturgis’ only singles victory, defeating Maddox Rosalin 6-0, 6-0 in that match.
Carter Oswald moved up to second singles and lost to Jordan Diekman 6-0, 6-1 while Brody Currier lost his third singles match to Sawyer Kite in three sets at 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. Logan White joined the varsity team and played fourth singles due to injury, he lost his match to Caden Town 6-0, 6-0.
Vicksburg won all four doubles matches.
Sturgis’ Andrew Scheske and Alex Cypher lost to Gio Gangloff and Wes Post 6-1, 6-2. Cooper and Easton Barkby lost their match at second doubles 6-1, 6-2. Brayden Bibb and Dom Brown (6-0, 6-0) lost at third doubles, as did Jonathan Bidde and Nixon Orpilla (6-0, 6-2) at fourth doubles.
On Monday, Sturgis lost to Otsego by a score of 5-3.
Ebert also won the first singles of this match, beating Flo Riquelme 6-0, 6-2.
Oswald won at third singles (6-1, 6-3) and Currier won 6-0, 1-0 (retirement) at fourth singles. Wyatt Miller was knocked off at second singles 6-4, 7-5.
Otsego won all four doubles matches.
Cooper and Easton Barkby lost in three sets at second doubles 7-6 (9), 1-6, 6-2. Bidde and Orpilla also lost at fourth doubles in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-0. White and Cypher lost their match at first doubles 6-3, 6-3 while at third doubles, the team of Bibb and Brown lost 7-6 (4), 6-4.
