Shanahan isn’t perturbed by the internet’s opinion of the 49ers’ mediocre season originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Kyle Shanahan doesn’t care what the internet thinks.
At least when it comes to the current state of the 49ers, even in the midst of a season where nothing seems to be going as planned.
On Wednesday, Shanahan painted a positive picture of the San Francisco locker room despite falling below .500 with Sunday’s resounding defeat in Green Bay.
“The atmosphere in our locker room is exactly what you would imagine,” Shanahan told reporters. during his press briefing. “We are unhappy with our record, but we have a tight group and we play together.”
The 49ers coach notably pushed back on the idea that online discourse affects him or his team.
I think if you live in an online world, whether you’re dealing with our profession or your kids are dealing with social issues at school, you’re not going to be happy if you’re dealing in the online world.” Shanahan continued. “And I’ve definitely coached long enough to not care about that world. Only online is where I usually watch movies, rap battles, and funny things animals do. »
So, needless to say, it doesn’t look like Shanahan is scrolling Twitter after a crushing loss. However, he explained the importance of avoiding comments on social media as much as possible, whether good or bad.
“When you listen to good things, like that, it ruins you more than anything. And then when you listen to bad things, it crushes you,” Shanahan said. “That’s not why any of us do this. You have to work with younger guys on this. I think it’s harder just because of the world they grew up in. But don’t make someone else’s reality your reality. You must focus on your work and never stray from it.
That message is more crucial than ever for the 49ers, who have lost two straight games to fall to 5-6 before a tie. daunting trip to Buffalo this Sunday.
