After a 128-120 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 6, 2024, the rising superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, “My whole life is consistent” during a postgame on-court interview after a 37-point performance.
While it wasn’t the day his streak began, it was the day his mantra of consistency was set in stone, paving the way for a streak of 100 consecutive games with 20 or more points and becoming the first guard in NBA history to do so.
Gilgeous-Alexander reached that century mark Monday, scoring his 20th and 21st points of the game on a mid-range jumper — his bread and butter — against Memphis Grizzlies forward GG Jackson Jr.
He finished the game with 31 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and one block while shooting 11 of 20 from the field and three of four from deep to help the Thunder earn a 119-103 victory.
As of Sunday, SGA was averaging 32.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 55.4 percent from the field and a career-high 43.2 percent from three-point range this season.
The Hamilton, Ontario native began his streak on November 1, 2024, during the fifth game of the 2024-25 season. From that point on, consistency became an understatement and he worked his way to a goalscoring title and a place in history.
Sometimes 20 points wasn’t enough. During the 2024-25 season, Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 30 points or more 49 times, 40 points or more 13 times and 50 points or more four times.
He’s taken it to another level this year, scoring less than 25 points just three times. He came into Monday leading the league with a point total of 878, 79 more than second-place Donovan Mitchell, while sitting out much of the fourth quarters as his Thunder team rolled to a 26-3 record.
Although the century is impressive, 26 matches separate Gilgeous-Alexander from history. Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain holds the record for 126 games.
If SGA remains as consistent as ever and avoids missing games due to rest or injury, he is on pace to tie Chamberlain’s record on Feb. 11 against the Phoenix Suns or surpass the record on Feb. 12 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
