The Grand Tennis Serena Williams joined the ownership group of the WNBA extension team, Toronto Tempo, the franchise announced on Monday in a press release.
“I am delighted to announce my role as a property in the first Canadian team of the WNBA, the Toronto tempo,” Williams said in a statement. “This moment does not only concern basketball; it is a question of presenting the true value and the potential of female athletes – I have always said that female sports are an incredible investment opportunity. I am delighted to associate myself with Larry (Tanenbaum) and all of Canada to create this new franchise and inheritance WNBA.”
The team belongs to Kilmer Sports Ventures and Tanenbaum is the group’s president. He is also the president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, who has the Raptors of Toronto And Maple Leafs of Toronto Among other professional sports franchises. Tanenbaum also exerts an influence as president of the Council of Governors of the NBA.
The team said that Williams, who won 23 Female Chelem’s female single titles, “will help give life to the tempo visually. She will play an active role in future Jersey conceptions and will help forge unique goods with the team.”
