Serena Williams thinks it’s “OK not to be OK.”
The 42-year-old former sports star admitted on social media that she’s “not doing well”, but she also insisted that’s not a problem either.
Serena – who is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time – wrote on well every day. If you are not well today I am with you. There is always tomorrow (kiss emoji) I love you. (sic)”
Serena has announced her retirement from tennis in 2022.
However, she previously admitted retirement was a “taboo subject” in her house before quitting the sport.
She told Vogue magazine: “I was reluctant to admit, to myself or anyone else, that I needed to stop playing tennis.
“Alexis, my husband and I have barely talked about it; it’s like a taboo subject. I can’t even have this conversation with my mom and dad. It’s like it wasn’t real until say it out loud.
“It happens, I get an uncomfortable lump in my throat and I start crying. The only person I’ve really been there with is my therapist! One thing I’m not going to do is sugarcoat That.”
Serena admitted that, unlike some of her rivals, she never really wanted to retire.
She said: “I know a lot of people are excited and looking forward to retirement, and I really wish I felt that way.
“Ashleigh Barty was world number one when she left the sport in March, and I think she really felt ready to move on. Caroline Wozniacki, who is one of my best friends, had a feeling of relief when she retired in 2020.”
