Sean Miller, is a seasoned university basketball coach with more than 450 career victories and four Elite Eight appearances, was Officially appointed male basketball coach at the University of Texas in Austin on March 23, 2025. The rental comes after Texas Separate with former head coach Rodney Terry Sunday morning.

Miller, 56, returns to a Power Five program after a second pass of three years to Xavier, where he led the musketeers to a soft appearance 16 in 2023 and compiled a record of 65–40 during this period.

Miller previously spent 12 seasons in Arizona from 2009 to 2021, where he guided the Wildcats towards seven appearances of the NCAA tournament and five Sweet 16s, including three Elite Eight. He was dismissed in April 2021 following an NCAA survey linked to the 2017 university basketball corruption scandal. The independent liability resolution process (IARP) then forced Miller to cancel 50 victories and several results in the playoffs due to problems with players’ eligibility.

Despite the controversy, the Miller’s training curriculum vitae remains among the most accomplished in university basketball. Through its mandates in Xavier and Arizona, its teams made 12 NCAA tournaments, advancing beyond the first round nine times. He holds a record for career coach of 487–196 (.713), and not counting the released matches.

Born on November 17, 1968 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Miller is the son of the longtime coach of the Lycée John Miller. An off-competition playmaker, he played Blackhawk High School before playing at the University of Pittsburgh from 1987 to 1992, where he became known for his leadership and basketball Qi.

Miller’s coach career started shortly after graduating with assistant roles at Wisconsin, Miami (Ohio), Pittsburgh and NC State. He joined Xavier in 2001 as a associated head coach under Thad Matta, and in 2004, he was promoted to head coach. In five seasons, he led the musketeers to four NCAA tournaments and an Elite Eight appearance in 2008.

In Arizona, Miller helped restore the program brand with three honors of the Coach of the Year PAC-12 and several recruitment courses among the first 10. He supervised major improvements in the facilities, including a renovation of $ 80 million to the McKale Center and the addition of a strength and packaging installation.

Internationally, Miller succeeded with the Basketball of the United States, winning a gold medal as a chief coach of the Male National U-199 team at the 2015 FIBA World Championship. He is one of the few individuals to win gold as a player, assistant trainer and head coach.

His career was defined by the consistency of the playoffs, a solid recruitment – in particular internationally – and the reconstruction of the program. During his stay at Arizona, Miller recruited and developed several NBA players, including the overall choice n ° 1 Deandre Ayton, Lauri Markkanen and Benédict Mathurin.

Miller inherits Texas in the midst of elite talents, but no real identity. Texas has quickly dominated in almost all the dry sports, with the exception of male basketball. The Miller era hopes to change this to Austin.
