Saleh shares funny anecdote about Staley to describe Bosa’s dominance originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
How to describe precisely Nick Bosa domination on the field?
Could it be to describe his physical presence? Or perhaps to detail one of his 53.5 bags?
Of course, there are several ways to do this, but when it became New York Jets coach Robert Saleh opportunity to illustrate Bosa’s dominance, the former 49ers defensive coordinator opted for a humorous tone Joe Staley anecdote.
“I’ve never seen a defender miss a tackle as often as he did, especially the way he did it,” Saleh said. NewYorkJets.com.
Through hard play and unwavering leadership, San FranciscoThe second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has earned his place among the NFL’s best edge rushers.
The 26-year-old is a four-time Pro Bowler, was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022 after leading the league in sacks with 18.5 while entering just his sixth season.
Bosa always had it, and Saleh remembers exactly when a young Bosa started giving Staley problems that the legendary 49er was never able to solve.
“It was absolutely fascinating,” Saleh added. “I remember very well (49ers LT) Joe Staley in Bosa’s first training camp having problems after the first couple of days.
“Bosa was all the rage. I was asked about it. I said he was a beginner, that Joe would figure it out. He never did.”
“Don’t be offended, Joe. (Bosa) has elite hand-eye coordination, power, he can win inside, outside or through you. He has an elite football IQ. He’s a tremendous football player, and if you look at him up close, his thighs are like that podium. Ridiculous.”
Saleh was not wrong then, and he is certainly not wrong today.
