Over the past two years, Ryan Day has coached Ohio State to a 22-4 record with a Cotton Bowl appearance and a first-round victory in the College Football Playoff, setting a Rose Bowl date with Oregon on New Year’s Day. Her son’s academic performance has been equally impressive during this time.
RJ Day, a sophomore at St. Francis DeSales (Ohio) High School, broke the school’s passing yards record in just two years. His 2,993 passing yards in his first two seasons broke the previous record of 2,752 set over three years from 1990-92, according to On3 and head coach Ryan Wiggins.
As a freshman, Day passed for 1,568 yards and 15 touchdowns and followed that up with 1,425 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, being named to the second-team All-District team, according to Le3.
Day’s 2,993 passing yards in two years bode well for the Stallions – just two years later, he already owns the record and is likely to improve over his final two seasons. The sky’s the limit for this team, which went 8-3 this season but fell in the regional quarterfinals.
Ryan Day, meanwhile, is preparing Ohio State for the first-ever CFP quarterfinals after leading them against Tennessee. The winner of the Rose Bowl will advance to the Cotton Bowl.
