When the Connecticut Sunshine Opening the 2025 season in May, fans will see a new face on the team’s sideline.
The Connecticut Sun announced Roneeka Hodges as the organization’s new assistant coach on Friday and she is eager to begin her new position.
“I am excited to begin this new journey with Coach Meziane and the Sun organization,” Hodges said in a press release. “I look forward to sharing my gaming knowledge and experiences as we continue to build a winning culture.” I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continued success.
Hodges previously served as an assistant coach for the New York Liberty of the WNBA from 2022 to 2024. In that role, she helped guide the Liberty to its first WNBA championship in 2024 and over 30 consecutive regular season victories in 2023 and 2024.
Prior to joining the Liberty, Hodges coached collegiately as an assistant at Colgate University (2021-2022) and Old Dominion University (2020-2021). She also served as a special advisor to the Louisiana State University women’s basketball program during the 2019-20 season.
Hodges also played in the WNBA from 2005 to 2015. During her career, she played for the Houston Comets, Minnesota Lynx, San Antonio Silver Stars, Indiana Fever, Tulsa Shock and Atlanta Dream. She played collegiately at Louisiana State (2000-2003) and Florida State (2004-2005), earning first-team All-ACC honors in 2005.
“Having an experienced former player like Roneeka on the team will be a great asset for the Sun,” Rachid Meziane, head coach of the Connecticut Sun, said in a press release. “She brings passion for the game, a winning spirit and an understanding of what it takes to be a great coach. I look forward to working alongside him in Connecticut and continuing to grow together.”
