Roman Anthony Takes No. 1 Spot in Baseball America’s Prospect Rankings originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Red Sox officially have the number 1 prospect in baseball.

Roman Anthony took first place in Baseball America’s Top 100 Players Ranking following The Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior CamineroPosition players are no longer considered prospects after reaching 130 MLB at-bats, which Caminero accomplished on Tuesday.

The Red Sox selected Anthony in the second round of the 2022 draft. Since then, the 20-year-old has done nothing but rack up points. He finished his first full professional season with Portland in Double-A and has carried that success into 2024, recently earning a promotion to Triple-A Worcester.

“Anthony was one of the stars of the 2023 season and has continued to impress throughout 2024,” Baseball America wrote. “He’s on pace to reach the major leagues before his 21st birthday and has a combination of power and batting discipline that should serve him well for years to come.”

Anthony is batting .286/.379/.499 with 18 homers and 79 RBIs in 109 games this season. He hasn’t lost his stride since his promotion. In 25 games with Worcester, the power-hitting outfielder has a .949 OPS with eight doubles, three homers and 14 RBIs.

Five Red Sox prospects join Anthony in Baseball America’s Top 100. Marcelo Mayer is 10th, Kristian Campbell is 24th, Kyle Teel is 25th, Braden Montgomery is 60th and Franklin Arias is 93rd.
