Greenville, NC (AP) – Caden Powell scored 18 points while Rice was beating the Caroline de l’Est 73-60 Wednesday evening to take a sequence of seven consecutive defeats.
Powell also contributed 10 rebounds for OWLS (12-11, 3-7 American Athletic Conference). Alem Huseinovic added 11 points while pulling 4 for 6, including 3 for 5 beyond the arc when he also had three interceptions.
The pirates (12-11, 4-6) were led by CJ Walker, which finished with 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks. RJ Felton added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Powell led Rice by scoring eight points in first half to help them increase 33-25 at the break. Rice withdrew with a race of 17-3 in the second period for an advance of 19 points. Powell paved the way with a top of 10 points in the second half.
The two teams will play the next Saturday. The Rice Visit Charlotte and the East Carolina are displayed against the UTSA on the road.
