Three weeks ago, during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, James Borchard, 11, was amazed when he opened his iPad and found an Instagram cry from congratulations from the American Pro Taylor Fritz after Borchard was accepted next month in Athens, Greece.
Borchard obtained a golden ball at Indian Wells on Thursday, winning the simple 12s boys as a seeded at the 57th Easter Fila Easter bowl.
“I was a little nervous at the start of the match,” said Borchard. “I took my time and I was patient and so happy to do without. Easter bowl is one of my favorite tournaments. ”
The 6-2 victory, 6-1 against Jugmin Lee not tested is another enormous feat for the 11-year-old Thousand Oaks younger to what some call the junior tennis super bowl.
The Easter bowl continues until Sunday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, with finals in the girls of girls and boys and 18 years old.
In the girls’ final 12s Thursday, Lucy Dupere de Wakered de Wakered, in North Carolina, beat Cross Kareena, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Daniela de Mastero, sixth seeded, from the suburbs of Minneapolis de Maple Grove, defeated Allison Wang, third seeded, 7-6 (2), 6-4, in the 14S final.
“We play inside November to April, if we are lucky,” said Mastero. “It is my first tournament that plays outside, and the first games were difficult to get used to just because I am so accustomed inside.”
In the boys’ final of 14, Arjun Krishnan, eighth seeded, from San Jose, beat Rafael Pawar, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
Krishnan now has its goal on 16 -year -old nationals in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
“I will try to qualify in Kalamazoo,” said Krishan. “Kalamazoo now becomes my priority from now on.”
