During a recent episode of PFT liveI said that I planned to pass allegiances of the Vikings in the Eagles, if only to enjoy a victory of the Super Bowl before heading to the big press box in the sky (which is also what they should call the press box in the Superdome).
I was joking, I think. If the movement that is the subject of this specific presentation text occurs, I may not be.
A Saturday morning tweet of Ian Rapoport from NFL Media said that the quarter-arrière Aaron Rodgers is “Considering the giants with the Vikings as a black horse. “”
It is another domino of trade which will send, from Wednesday, the quarterrier Geno Smith at the Raiders. If, as expected, the Seahawks sign Sam Darnold, the Vikings will need another veteran. Potentially enter Rodgers.
Many (not me) are rooted for Rodgers to pass the next step in Brett Favre’s career arc. And JJ McCarthy would not be delighted to have the opportunity to become the delayed starter of a season.
Admittedly, Rodgers would only sign with the Vikings if it was installed as a starter. It could make things interesting and clumsy, if he and / or the team struggles in the middle of the season and McCarthy is ready to leave.
The Vikings welcomed Favre in 2009. He propelled the franchise to one of his best seasons since the last appearance of Minnesota Super Bowl, 49 years ago. And the Vikings would probably have succeeded if Favre had not become a fool with the game on the line, launching a pass on his body when the Vikings were within reach for a potential winner of the game.
Maybe Rodgers has enough to make a difference. Maybe the Vikings can take another former quarter of the missed jets and go to the playoffs, and potentially win a match or two. Maybe Rodgers can do for the Vikings what Favre could not.
The less Rodgers wants to financially, the more the decision will become tempting. If, in the end, they can get Rodgers for everything they had budgeted to pay Darnold, it may make sense.
And when the Vikings welcome the Eagles this season, it may make sense for me to wear the Eagles Throwback hooded sweatshirt.
