Report: Star shortstop Adames, Giants agree to seven-year, $182 million deal originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Giants made their first big splash of the MLB offseason.
San Francisco agreed to terms on a seven-year, $182 million contract with star shortstop Willy AdamesESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Saturday, citing sources.

Adames would receive a $22 million signing bonus as part of the deal.
Willy Adames will receive a $22 million signing bonus as part of his deal with the Giants. The $182 million guarantee marks the third-largest free agent contract ever for a player of Dominican descent, behind Albert Pujols and Robinson Cano. And that exceeds Buster Posey’s $167 million contract.

The $182 million deal is the most lucrative contract the Giants have ever awarded, surpassing the previous record of $167 million held by Buster Poseywho is now president of baseball operations for San Francisco.
The Willy Adames deal is $15 million more than the Giants’ previous record, which belonged to…Buster Posey.

Adames, 29, is coming off a breakout year in which he hit 32 home runs while driving in 112 runs for the Milwaukee Brewers. THE seven-year MLB veteran gives the Giants a serious power upgrade in the middle of their lineup and a reliable glove in the middle of their interior defense.
The Giants now have third basemen Matt Chapman and Adames on their team for the next six and seven years, respectively.
Finding a star shortstop was San Francisco’s top priority this offseason, and they were able to take care of business before the 2024 MLB Winter Meetings began on Monday.
