New Jacksonville JaguarsChef Liam Coen will now start to complete his team of coaches. And a name to monitor for the role of offensive coordinator is Chip Kelly.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS SportsKelly is “considered a target” for the opening of the Jaguars offensive coordinator.
Jones also adds that Jaguars are not the only team to be interested in Kelly as an offensive coordinator, but that Houston’s Texans also do it.
A problem to be monitored here with regard to Kelly is that, since the Jaguars have Coen, who noted Jones, plans to call games, the role of Kelly in the team would be that of an offensive coordinator of Call without play. He will also have to adapt to what Coen wishes to implement rather than manage his own project.
With the Texans, however, the head coach Demeco Ryans is a defensive referee, therefore the role of Kelly with Houston would imply that he calls the games.
It is still very early in this process, so we do not know where Kelly is on all of this, but the difference between the two roles is remarkable.
Kelly has held several head coach positions during his career. He was head coach from Oregon from 2009 to 2012, then joined the NFL to train the Eagles of Philadelphia from 2013 to 2015, then the 49ers of San Francisco in 2016.
From 2018 to 2023, he was back at the university level as coach of the UCLA and last season, he was offensive coordinator and quarter coach for Ohio State.
On the way to the national championship, the buckeyes ranked ninth mark an attack Last and fourth season in yards by play under Kelly.
Kelly has an 81-41 file as a head-to-university trail and a 28-35 sheet in the NFL with participation in the playoffs.
