Now that the 2025 NFL season is over, attention turns to the start of next season.
And with the 49ers and Rams scheduled to host a Week 1 match in Melbournesome interesting permutations are emerging.

John Ourand of Puckwhich recently announced that the 49ers-Rams game in Melbourne would take place as part of the NFL’s opening weekend, now reports that the Rams-49ers will take place on Wednesday September 9 or Thursday September 10.
It could be 49ers-Rams on Wednesday, with the Seahawks home opener on Thursday. That could also change, with the Seahawks playing on Wednesday and the Australia game on Thursday.
Regardless, NBC will broadcast the Seahawks game. A streamer to be determined will broadcast the 49ers-Rams.
It still makes a lot of sense, in our opinion, to face the 49ers-Rams on Sunday September 6th. This would give both teams as much time as possible to recover from the travel and jet lag in order to prepare for Week 2 and beyond. Currently, however, it appears that the Rams-49ers will be a midweek game – and perhaps the first game of the 2026 season.
