Dallas (AP) – Reilly Opelka faces a potential discipline for his post -match comments on a chair referee he called the “worst UMP on tour”, said ATP in a statement on Friday.
Opelka was angry at having received a punctual penalty while he was used for the match in the third set against Cameron Norrie at the Dallas Open on Thursday evening. Opelka won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The 27 -year -old American was penalized for using blasphemy while repressing a member of the crowd. Opelka said the unidentified fan had repeatedly disrupted his service.
“Audible obscenities directed against public members constitute a clear violation of ATP rules,” the tour said in its press release. “In such cases, the chair referee is responsible for taking the appropriate measures, regardless of the score of the match. The ATP will examine the post-match comments of Mr. Opelka as part of its standard disciplinary process. »»
After the match, Opelka said referee Greg Allensworth did not prevent the fan from disturbing the game.
“Worse UMP on tour,” said Opelka. “He’s really bad. Has almost changed the result of this match just because he doesn’t really know what he is doing. And he became emotional when we argue. … he didn’t say (the fan) to be silent? He did it to, like three points. He did not do his job, so I had to say to him: “Get out of here”. »»
