Thereat night, when normal human beings sleep, a writer literally spends hours Golf on Reddit, a treasure trove of humor, whining, gear scores, outright lies, and sometimes good advice. This also led him, in the past, to Bucket Hat Type. Every Friday it will bring you the best content on the site, so you can live a normal life.
Often in this column we view Reddit as the arbiter of golf-specific conundrums:When is it okay to pick up a stranger’s ball? What if your spouse hates it when you play golf? This time, however, we clear away all ambiguity, erase all uncertainty from the record and come together for a good old discussion. The subject? The changing of clocks. (I would say “daylight saving time”, but then the pedants would be all over us since daylight saving time is actually the correct one, meaning the summer months, and apparently it is ” the economy” not “the economy”. Go away, pedants.) I’m not sure there is a rational golfer in the entire universe who doesn’t consider changing the clocks the worst day of the year. There are many irrational ones, but true thinkers know that this is an annual tragedy. Gone is any chance of playing nine holes after a normal work day; gone is any chance of starting a tour mid-afternoon and finishing it before dark; finished, even, it is enough to walk two or three holes after 5 p.m. to preserve mental health.
It’s horrible! And Reddit Golf knows it’s horrible, which is why a simple message per user petermal67 This very simple but very important point is the most popular post on the subreddit this week. Our man didn’t even write anything, he just posted this photo of a guy holding up a sign at a golf tournament:
This image, you should know, is false. It’s based on the meme of a guy on the street holding up a sign that says “Stop replying to all company emails” (also a good point), and was Photoshopped into a golf gallery. Yet, as this deranged wrestling fan once said, “It’s still real to me, dammit!” And Reddit agreed. Here are some of the main comments:
I just started at 12:45 today and barely finished before sunset. Ridiculous!
This is precisely why golfers should 100% push for a permanent DST change.
This really makes my “after 3 p.m.” subscription difficult to use from now on.
I was refused a ride at the 3:40pm departure time yesterday. It’s a worse time today. Fuck this shit for real. I would be fine with sunrise at 2pm if it meant later sunsets.
It should also be mentioned that the pedants came out of thin air. But I guess if we’re going to push for full DST in this country, we need to know our facts, so I’ll begrudgingly point out one of them that was more polite.
No, everyone HATES standard time. Full-time DST is the way to go. You do not believe me ? We just changed the time and you hate what time it happens? GOOD. We just switched to standard time. It’s rubbish. P.O. Please understand this.
My favorite response to this came from RoiChavwhich cut short the absurdities:
Whoever lets me play Twilight, keep that time system. F the other
I also loved this back and forth, like a little online version of the Civil War 150 years later:
You people of the North have to get out of this. Leaving work at 5:30 p.m. in the dark is so depressing. Make daylight saving time permanent!
Should we care? We don’t play golf 6 months a year because it snows. There you are, you’re complaining because your December rounds are no longer as practical.
We don’t pity any golfer stupid enough to live in a state where you can’t play golf 6 months out of the year. Our off-season subscriptions are scheduled every afternoon and the overtime is killing us.
Look, I’m a northerner by birth and a southerner by residence (North Carolina), and I hate to do it, but I have to side with the southerners here. There’s a reason I don’t submit to the ridiculous winters of my youth, and I’m furious that the beautiful fall and winter weather here is too often unusable for golf because of a weather rule stupid.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that in the morning people came in droves. The people of the morning, monstrous and incomparable. You have to go to the bottom of the post to find them, thrown into oblivion, but there they were, unbearable as usual, rubbing it in everyone’s face.
I don’t know. I left at 6:20 a.m. today.
Yeah, if you’re gentle and only play in the afternoon. 90% of my tours start at first light.
Well, GOOD FOR YOU, morning weirdos. The rest of us are working or just enjoying sleep. Either way, I don’t know if there is a solution, but I’m glad we can collectively establish that of all the bad things in the world – and there are many – robbing ourselves of a precious hour for playing golf in the evening is by far the worst. Fix it, Biden.
