Megan Rapinoe appears in the latest ESPN The Magazine Body Issue.
United States national team and Seattle Reign FC midfielder Megan Rapinoe is the latest women’s soccer player to pose for the ESPN Magazine Body problem.
Rapinoe, 29, showed off her body for the July 11, 2014 issue. Her American teammates Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux have appeared in previous editions of the Body Issue.
In the interview with ESPN Magazine, Rapinoe talks about what she calls her “weird body,” as well as being gay. She also openly discusses her lack of speed and strength, saying that great soccer players are more than just fast and strong.
“Success in football depends on how well you can read the game” she said in the interview. “It’s about the spaces you can get into and what you do with the ball. Some of the best soccer players in the world are really short and aren’t the biggest, strongest athletes. When I was younger, my coaches gave me the freedom to be creative, and that’s how I still play today.
