Fans have been patiently waiting for six months (207 days to be exact) for football to return, and now that we have officially reached the new season, I can confidently and emphatically say that NFL football is BACK.
The offseason has been filled with speculation, predictions, fantasy football, and (of course) betting, but now NFL fans can finally see their favorite teams take the field again.
It’s a beautiful thing to know that we have football every week until a Super Bowl champion is crowned in February.
What is your favorite part of football? Is it the flashy touchdown passes? The celebrations after the score? Perhaps it’s the fantasy football aspect of the game, or the built-in sports betting opportunity on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays? Or the fact that you can watch 7 hours of ad-free football one day a week?
There are truly too many highlights to count when it comes to professional football, but I will tell you one thing that is definitely underrated when it comes to the NFL: football-themed music football from each game provider.
You may not think about it much, but the music playing through your TV speakers before games start plays a vital role in the experience of watching football. So much so that I thought it would be necessary to rank each channel’s soccer hype music, and luckily my boss gave the idea the green light.
While I greatly enjoy both of these songs and they add (or did add) a lot to the experience of watching football, this list strictly contains the instrumental musical productions of each network that broadcasts football…for some unexplained reason.
All of the songs below “go hard” and are “bangers” for no apparent reason other than to make you want to sit on your couch, drink alcohol, eat snacks, and watch football.
5. Amazon Prime Video Thursday Night Football
Prime Video’s football theme is respectable, but it just doesn’t convey the same musical enthusiasm as the others.
Amazon is the newest entrant into the NFL vendor space, so being late to the game and joining the ranks with so many other well-established theme songs doomed Jeff Bezos from the start.
4. NFL on CBS
You might be scrolling down the page and be surprised to see that this one comes in at number four. It’s solid, don’t get me wrong, but I hope you’ll agree with my placement as we continue down the list.
The CBS theme song packs a punch and is definitely the most “rocking” song on the entire list. There’s really nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn’t quite manage to rank among the other three in the rankings.
3. NBC Sunday Night Football Theme
When you’ve been waiting all day for Sunday night, this song absolutely brings the heat. Preparation is everything, and the NFL theme music on NBC is a beautiful orchestra that welcomes fans for the final game of Sunday’s great football slate.
Pair it with the Cris Collinsworth slide-in (I hope they bring him back) and you have literally You bought a ball game.
2. ESPN Monday Night Football Theme
ESPN’s Monday Night Football song and NBC’s Sunday Night theme are both so good, which made it incredibly difficult to pit them against each other.
However, ESPN’s NFL theme takes the lead in my power rankings due to the climax of the song where it says “dun, dun, dun, dun, DUN.” For some reason it just means more. Big football fans know what I’m talking about…
1. NFL on FOX
Finally, we come to number one, occupied by FOX’s “turn the volume up” NFL theme. I don’t know about you, but this song makes me want to run through a brick wall.
Hearing the start of the FOX broadcast (usually superimposed with futuristic FOX football robots running and throwing footballs at a Tron-a typical football field) gives you enough energy to motivate you to participate in this 5 team match.
I hope you agree with my list, but most of all, I hope you’re as excited as I am about the return of NFL football.
Are we ready for some football?
Yes, yes, we are.
