If there are moral victories, the New York Rangers have just one.
Despite their 3-2 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night, the Rangers have reason to be happy.
For the most part, the Rangers played 60 minutes of hockey, a new style this team has recently adopted.
The fourth line duo of Sam Carrick and Adam Edström were once again fantastic as they both scored their own goals.
New York led 2-1 for much of the night and contained an explosive offense from the Avalanche, especially with Shesterkin making big saves down the stretch.
With just over a minute left, Artturi Lehkonen scored and the Rangers ultimately lost in overtime.
Peter Laviolette believes Rangers did enough to win, which is why frustrations were particularly high.
“What’s frustrating is not getting the second point in the column that we need,” Laviolette said. “That’s why everyone is frustrated and irritated by the night.”
There is a feeling that despite the defeat, the team is not demoralized due to their encouraging performance.
“It’s a disappointing loss but at the same time I think we have a lot of positives to look at,” Braden Schneider said. “Let’s move forward and keep bringing what we do and keep trying to win.”
The Rangers will be back in action Thursday night against the Utah Hockey Club.
