This victory against St Johnstone came at the right time for Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny. He rewarded the confidence of coach Philippe Clément after recent criticism, particularly after his incredible failure in the 4-1 defeat against Lyon on Thursday.
Cerny has had an interesting start to life at Rangers. Some first promises, followed by a reaction to his own fans, who are missing, then a deletion of his Instagram account.
The winger delivered here and this could be a huge moment for him. He showed his quality with his two goals and walked towards the coach after scoring.
Cerny looks like a player with confidence and that should bring some.
The half-time return of Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi gave Clement another option. This will be delayed and a suspension will now follow. The guy just can’t buy a break, it seems.
This was another league victory that could have been more comfortable with another domestic clean sheet. This allows Rangers to benefit from an international break in which they can regroup ahead of a tricky trip to Kilmarnock in two weeks’ time.
