British number two Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her Korea Open quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina with a left foot injury.
Raducanu struggled to solve this problem in the previous round against Yue Yuan and continued to look uncomfortable in the opening exchanges against the top seed Russian.
The 21-year-old was broken in the second game but, despite a direct break, he struggled to serve and was unable to chase returns down the court.
She needed a medical timeout after the fifth game and decided she could not continue after losing the first set 6-1.
Kasatkina will face compatriot Diana Shnaider in the semi-finals after beating Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 7-6 6-3.
The match will take place later on Saturday after rain postponed Friday’s game.
“I feel sorry for Emma,” Kasatkina said after the match. “It’s a shame to get injured, especially in the most difficult stages of the tournament. I wish her a speedy recovery.”
Raducanu was hoping to reach her first semi-final above WTA 250 level since winning the 2021 US Open.
The world number 70 has suffered a number of injuries since her triumph at Flushing Meadows.
She has been limited to just nine games in 2023 due to surgery on both hands and her left ankle.
Raducanu returned earlier this year and reached the second round of the Australian Open, before skip the French Open to focus on his fitness.
She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for back to world top 100but suffered a first-round defeat to American Sofia Kenin at the US Open last month.
