Both Williams the cars are in SQ3, which is a bit surprising given Qatar has the potential to be a tricky weekend for the team.
At yesterday’s FIA press conference, Carlos Sainz was asked about his previous comments on this and why he felt this way:
💬 “It’s just in the speed range where on every track we go to, we’re the slowest in these kind of corners. It’s 150 to 200 km/h, medium speed corners, high speed corners – fourth, fifth, sixth gear.”
“Every track we go to, we see the GPS data, and we tend to be one of the slower cars or one of the slower teams. And in Qatar you just have these corners.”
“So unless we find something magical in terms of settings that activate the car for these kinds of corners – which we can’t do at other circuits – I’m afraid it will be the most or one of the most difficult weekends of the season.
It’s early and these are just the qualifications for the sprint. But one wonders what Williams’ potential could be this weekend.
It occupies fifth place in the constructors’ standings, with a gap of 31 points over Racing Bulls.
