It will not take long before the cars are on the right track at Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona 500 takes the green flag.

Here are the key details of the opening of the season.

Time and date

The Daytona 500 should take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 16 on Fox.

The race is 200 laps around the 2.5 mile speedway.

It will be the 68th race race at Daytona International Speedway. William Byron won last year’s race.

Non -charter buries

There are nine cars without charters who have announced its intention to participate in the event. Four will make the field.

Helio Castroneves is guaranteed a starting place of Daytona 500 through a new rule. NASCAR authorizes a provisional by race for world class drivers, a team asks him at least 90 days before the event. If Castroneves qualifies on speed or wins a place thanks to its qualification race, the provisional will not be accessible to any other competitor.

Teams in Daytona without a charter:

Martin Truex Jr. in the car n ° 56 for the tricon garage

Jimmie Johnson in car n ° 84 for Legacy Motor Club

Justin Allgaier in car n ° 40 for JR Motorsports

Chandler Smith in car n ° 66 for the garage 66

Anthony Alfredo in car n ° 62 for Beard Motorsports

Corey Lajoie in car n ° 01 for Rick Ware Racing

Helio Castroneves in car n ° 91 for trackhouse races

Definition of the field

There are several layers to define the Daytona 500 field.

Single car qualifications will take place on February 12. The two fastest cars will lock the departure places in the front row.

In addition, the two fastest cars without a charter will be guaranteed a starting place.

The field is divided into two qualification races of 60 laps on February 13. The rest of the land will be fixed after these races.

A non -charter car for each qualification race will make the ground.

Joey Logano won the post for last year’s race and Michael McDowell finished second. Last year did not mark the second time in 10 years that Hendrick Motorsports did not win the Daytona 500 pole.

Past Daytona 500 winners

Denny Hamlin is a triple winner, marking the victories in 2016, 1919 and ’20. Jimmie Johnson won the race in 2006 and ’13.

The pilots of the current cup with a victory of a Daytona 500 are: William Byron (2024), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (2023), Austin Cindric (2022), Michael McDowell (2021), Austin Dillon (2018) and Joey Logano (2015).
