After a two-month run in which he scored in seven consecutive Bundesliga games, attracted interest from five of England’s biggest teams, followed by a new contract and a big raise from his current club, it was always going to be difficult for Benjamin Sesko to improve his reputation at Euro 2024.
Because right now the 21-year-old Slovenian is the football equivalent of the next big tech stock, a unicorn, all on the rise, you better jump on board before that train leaves the station and so on.
And all this could still happen…
But what we have seen in the four games of this tournament is why none of his many admirers have yet reached RB Leipzig’s magic number and he will return for another year at the Red Bull finishing school next term.
It’s more a matter of reputation being confirmed than reinforced.
