INDIANAPOLIS – Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker TJ Watt is a hot topic of conversation during Day 4 of the 2022 NFL Combine.
Day four began with media interviews for the defensive line and edge class. And as one might imagine, the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year has been mentioned by a number of high-end prospects in this year’s draft class.
Starting with the draft’s top prospect, Adain Hutchinson, who is the favorite player to watch play in Pittsburgh.
“I’d probably say TJ (Watt),” Hutchinson said. “I just think the way he rushes, how relentless he is, it’s a lot of fun to watch, and I think that’s why he’s so fun to watch.”
Hutchinson wasn’t the only player to mention Watt during their group interview. Almost every Edge Rusher has talked about the possibility of playing opposite him.
“Surrounded by greatness,” Michigan’s David Ojoba said of Watt. “You can only learn from the best, so this will only elevate my game.”
“If I had another power player next to me, it would be a lot harder to stop someone like me,” said Myjai Sanders of Cincinnati. “I rarely get stopped, but having another edge rusher going at the same time as you go around the edge, that would be a lot of fun.”
As for why, Defensive Player of the Year and a share of the NFL’s single-season sack record are easy answers. But in reality, it’s because of the player Watt is.
“Around a bunch of dogs,” Perrion Winfrey of Oklahoma said of Watt. “A group of people who want to win, a group of great people who have the mentality to win and who strive for greatness every day. That would be a dream of mine.”
