In a race that has become known as a league barometer, the Nascar Cup series will tackle a new twist this weekend at the Phoenix Raceway.
The 312 -lap race on Sunday features the beginnings of options on the oval of 1 mile. The tire was used in last year’s stars racing in North Wilkesboro Speedway and the August 11 race in Richmond Raceway, where it attracted pilot’s loss critics.
Several put pressure on to use the options in the championship race last year in Phoenix, but Goodyear and Nascar have chosen to wait this season – with a view to using options in the 2025 season final if they are deemed successful.
