Phoenix Mercury to celebrate Diana Taurasi with the highest distinction of the WNBA franchise

The Phoenix Mercury will retire the Diana Taurasi jersey in 2026.

Taurasi’s n ° 3 jersey will be placed in the Ring of Honor in Mercury next year, the organization announced on Thursday.

Taurasse announced his retirement on February 25Ending a career of 20 seasons in the WNBA which included three WNBA championships and the record of all time in the league, all with Mercury.

She will become the sixth person to receive the highest distinction in the franchise, joining Jennifer Gillom, Cheryl Miller, Bridget Pettis, Penny Taylor and Michele Timms.

Selected n ° 1 in total by Phoenix in the draft of the 2004 WNBA, Taurasi collected on average 18.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 565 regular season games.

“Diana is the largest of all time,” said Phoenix Mercury and Mat Ishbia owner in a statement. “What she has done in the past 20 years is really remarkable.

“From the MVP championships to the gold medals, it is one of the most decorated athletes of all time and we are delighted to celebrate everything she has done for sport, the franchise and our city with her enthronement to our ring of honor.”
