The Phoenix Mercury will have the 7th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, the league announced it during its lottery on Sunday.
The 2025 draft will take place April 14 after the NCAA Women’s National Championship.
The Dallas Wings secured the No. 1 pick to likely select UConn senior star Paige Bueckers. Dallas had the second-worst 9-31 record in 2024, and among the four teams with the best odds alongside the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics, to secure the top pick. Each of these teams missed the playoffs.
Phoenix entered the playoffs as the seventh seed, finished the regular season with a 19–21 record, and was eliminated in the first round by championship runner-up Minnesota. Phoenix had a veteran-filled team this season, led by second-team All-WNBA selection Kahleah Copper, Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner.
Taurasi, the league’s all-time leading scorer, has yet to make his decision to retire or play his 21st season. If she plays again, it would extend her other league record for longest career ever.
