Griner and Johnson were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, according to Goodyear police.
The Phoenix Mercury has released a statement regarding the arrest of its superstar Brittney Griner for assault and affray.
The team said Thursday: “The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time.”
The WNBA later released a statement. Spokeswoman Dina Skokos said Thursday, “We are aware of the incident involving Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson and are working with the Phoenix Mercury and Tulsa Shock organizations to obtain more information.”
Griner, 24, and his fiancee, Glory Johnson of Tulsa Shock, 24, were both arrested by Goodyear police. Goodyear PD said Thursday the department received a 911 call Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. regarding a physical fight between Griner and Johnson resulting in minor injuries to both women.
Griner and Johnson were taken into custody on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, according to Goodyear police.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Jail Information Center, the Phoenix Mercury star and Johnson were released from the 4th Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix just after 4 a.m. Thursday .
