Philadelphia hopes to re-sign Quentin Grimes, if they can afford to

You must seek hard for light points in this season of the 76ers of Philadelphia, but Quentin Grimes is one of them. Since he was exchanged in Philadelphia from Dallas as part of the Caleb Martin agreement, Grimes has on average 21.8 points per game while pulling 39.2% out of 3, and adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists per night.

Grimes is a restricted free agent this offseason and the 76ers hope to re-sign it, reports Marc Stein in his weekly newsletter.

The challenge is how Grimes could do and if Philadelphia can afford it.

The Grimes market is difficult to predict. Keith Smith in Spotac projects a 100 million dollars contract over four yearsAlthough I think it seems high, something nearly $ 20 million per season is a fair bet on the potential of the 24 -year -old man who showed that he was more than a 3 & D guy. That said, only Brooklyn has the hood space to maximize Grimes, and it is Not the direction that the nets look atAnd it is difficult to see another team coming with an offer that Philadelphia would not correspond.

That said, the 76ers have their own challenges. Philadelphia is on the hook for 149.1 million dollars next season for their three Grands by Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey, as well as Jared McCain. This leaves the Sixers to around $ 5 million below the salary ceiling number with at least 10 places to fill. The real figures to be monitored are the luxury line (around $ 187.9 million) and the second tax apron ($ 207.8 million).

Things add up quickly. The 76ers have recently faded in the hope of keeping their choice of recovery in the first round (they owe it to Oklahoma City, protected from the six tops). If Philly lands in the top six, this recruit will cost at least $ 8 million and up to $ 13 million next season. In addition, Grimes is not the only player that the 76ers want to bring back. There is Kelly Oubre, who should withdraw from her $ 8.4 million and become a free agent, as well as the free agent without restriction Guerschon Yabusele.

The reality: Philly will probably only be able to bring two of Grimes, Oubre and Yabusele back. Maybe things shake differently, but with a high-level list, it will be difficult for Daryl Morey to fill the list with quality players and stay below the aprons.

Whatever the 76ers, expect a team to intensify and pay Grimes this season. Dallas’s trade in Philly could not have worked much better for him.
