Jorge Fossati appeared to blame the pitch at AT&T Stadium for the injury that forced Luis Advincula out against Chile.
The Peruvian captain, 34, had to be substituted with what appeared to be an injury just 34 minutes into the 0-0 draw on Friday night.
He was replaced by Marcos Lopez.
“It’s not normal grass that gets planted and grows,” Fossati said after the match. “It may be a little more difficult and it may affect you. I am not a doctor.
The comments follow strong criticism of the playing surface following Argentina’s opening win over Canada on Friday night.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni said Atlanta’s pitch was “not good for show” before goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez went further, calling the pitch a “disaster”.
Advincula has 119 caps for his country, second only to striker Paolo Guerrero (120) in the current squad.
Peru will next face Canada on Tuesday in Kansas City.
