MONDAY
Golf for boys
Region 1-1A Tournament: Pensacola Catholic enters the state tournament as a Class 1A team, after finishing second at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club with a team score of 298 (14 over par).
The Crusaders are only one shot behind the leader, Bolles (297). But as finalists, they automatically advance to the state tournament, which spans two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) at the Mission Resort + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills. The boys’ tournament will take place on the El Campeon course.
Hudson Mitchell finished second in the tournament out of 72 golfers to lead Pensacola Catholic, shooting a one-under-par 70 on the day, with seven birdies on the day, including the par-3 second hole. Luke Balaskiewicz of Bolles, with a 68 that day, was the weak medalist of the tournament.
All Pensacola Catholic golfers also finished in the top 30 in the field.
Northview, which also competed as a team at the regional championships, placed sixth overall with a score of 334, led by a seven-over par 78 from junior Luke Godwin. It remains to be determined whether other Northview area golfers will make it to the state tournament as an at-large bid from the iWanamaker rankings.

Region 1-2A Tournament: Escambia County saw three golfers compete as individuals in the Region 1-2A tournament held at Lake City Country Club in Lake City.
Cash Schweigert of Pensacola, Devin Grandt of West Florida and Jack Floyd of Booker T. Washington all competed in the 18-hole tournament Monday. Schweigert had the lowest score in the region, placing 51st out of 72 golfers with a 17-over par 89 on the day.
It remains to be determined whether any golfers will make it to the state tournament based on the iWanamaker rankings.

Region 1-3A Tournament: Pace failed to make it to the Class 3A state tournament as a team, finishing fourth at the regional championships with a team score of 302 at Cypress Head Golf Club in Port Orange.
Adam Penrod and Judah Talley both finished with the Patriots’ lowest scores of the day, shooting a double-par 74 during the round to finish the day in a three-way tie for 15th place with Ponte Vedra’s Jack Chung . The Sharks’ Jake Mason and Jaspreet Kondal tied for low medalist honors with a four-under par 68, although Mason’s card was flawless with an eagle and two birdies.
Tate’s Baylor Touchstone and Ben Robinson also competed in the tournament, with Touchstone placing 19th with a score of 76. Gulf Breeze’s Clark Norris had an 81 as the Dolphins’ only representative at the tournament.
It remains to be determined whether any area golfers will compete in the 3A state tournament next week, based on the iWanamaker rankings for at-large bids.
