CINCINNATI- Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow are two of the best quarterbacks on the planet and arguably part of the best rivalry in the NFL.
Despite the rivalry, they agree on a big topic that could have a major impact on the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes believes the NFL should add a bye week if it moves to an 18-game schedule.
“I think we should find a way to have more bye weeks, more spread out time,” Mahomes told CNBC’s Alex Sherman. “You’ve seen the number of injuries that pile up at the end of seasons, and you want the best players to play in the biggest games. And so if there was a way to get to 18 games, I’m not in it – I’m not a big fan of it. But if there was a way, I think it would add a few weeks off to give guys’ bodies more time.”
That matches what Burrow said last offseason when asked about the possibility of an 18-game schedule.
“I think it would be cool to have the normal bye week schedule like it is now, spread it out, but then, like week 13, do like the Pro Bowl break where you do the 7-on-7 and all the skill challenges like the NBA does,” Burrow said on the Pardon My Take podcast. “I think it would get more viewership for the Pro Bowl, and it would also give everyone that week off before the last six games of the year.”
The NFL has made it clear it wants to play 18 games at some point in the future. A second bye week would help, but it could also mean an earlier start to the season.
