OKC Thunder see two on Summer League star roster

The Oklahoma City Thunder saw two land on the Salt Lake City Summer League All-Star roster. Just weeks after winning the NBA championship, the OKC Thunder returned to the court with their summer league team.

All eyes were on the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Nikola Topic. The Oklahoma City Thunder saw Topic make his NBA debut in Salt Lake City as the Thunder faced the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz in a Summer League round robin.

Topic made some remarkable plays with his high-level play and game sense, setting his teammates up for success, but being left out with many potential assists that could have improved his scoring. The rookie’s ability to physically get to the rim looked good and the vision of him participating in Oklahoma City’s secondary offense was easy to see.

The Thunder lacked play in the half-court with their bench unit, especially after rookie Ajay Mitchell injured his toe. Topic’s ability to touch the paint and spray it to the open man was eye-catching during Summer League.

Not everything was perfect, the turnovers were noisy at times and the lottery pick is still a below-average defender –– as expected –– but ultimately he did enough to land on the Salt Lake City Summer League All-Star roster.

Mitchell joined Topic in the Summer League and played the role of the best player on the court in all three games. The UC Santa Barbara product was in command with the ball in hand, turning the corner to go downhill at will and dominating the competition to join Topic on the roster of Summer League stars.

The two Thunder stars are accompanied by Jaylen Wells (Memphis), VJ Edgecombe (Philadelphia), Kyle Filipowski (Utah) and Brice Sensabaugh (Utah).
