Nikola Topic is working on his NBA debut, more than a year after being drafted with the 12th overall pick in 2024, with his rookie contract guaranteed through the end of the 2026-27 season.
THE Oklahoma City Thunderdefending champion, exercised team options on Sunday on the contracts of the Serbian leader and Cason Wallace.
According to the press release: “THE Oklahoma City Thunder has exercised its third-year contract option on guard Nikola Topić and its fourth-year contract option on guard Cason Wallace, Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today.
Topić missed the 2024-25 season while recovering from a left knee injury after being selected 12th overall by the Thunder in the 2024 NBA Draft. He spent the 2023-24 season with Red Star of the Adriatic League, where he averaged 15.1 points on 50.5% shooting, along with 5.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game.
Wallace played in 150 games (56 starts) over two seasons with the Thunder and recorded averages of 7.5 points, 2.0 assists and 1.31 steals in 23.8 minutes. The Kentucky product was named to the 2024 and 2025 Rising Stars teams during All-Star weekend and he also received second-team All-Rookie honors at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
Topic, 20, is expected to record his first appearance in the North American league in November, after starting the 2025-26 regular season on the injury list due to a testicular procedure in early October.
